Not really, although this wouldn't be that difficult. My real hope is
that they get enough complaints to think twice next time they consider
a similar technical choice in the future.

The list of boards with hidden SMBus keeps growing with every new
kernel, Asus being the most frequent offender, but other manufacturers
do it too. Search for "asus" in drivers/pci/quirks.c for a list. All
the recent entries for Asus appear to be for laptops though, not desktop
boards.

Well, openSuse 10.2 will stick to a 2.6.18 kernel anyway, so if you
build your own 2.6.20 kernel, you'll have to handle the security
updates by yourself as well.
