[lm-sensors] Unable to turn cooling device on

I am running an older Compaq Presario 2600cl with Fedora 9
I am getting these messages.
I update BIOS to most recent ( Nov, 2004 )
I have googled and worked this  problem for several hours,
but I am still not able to stop the messages every 2-4 seconds:

I modified the sensors3.conf as noted below; restarted lm_sensors

chip "w83697hf-*"
   ignore temp1
   ignore temp2
   ignore fan1
   label  temp3  "CPU Temp"

   set temp1_type 1 # ?
   set temp2_type 1 # ?
   set temp1_max  51
   set fan1_min   0


sensors cmd no longer shows values for temp1, temp2, fan1. OK
but messages continue every 2 - 4 seconds.
